Basically, the Forever 21 of designers, wait and see....

Label


The label was created by Agnés Troublé in 1973. It is a global brand and surprisingly so considering the small amount of advertisement. It is shown in Paris as a RTW and is known for it's 70's vibe as well as being very French. She was born in Versailles in 1941. She was hired by ELLE as a junior editor and did several other apprenticeships before making her own line in 1973. Her first boutique opened in 1975 and went from having only friends be regulars to being a worldwide brand which is very impressive. She also is interested in film and finances various small time directors. She has also been knighted which is always pretty cool. So no disrespect, she's done amazingly well. I'm just confused as to her true style. Lets take a look at two collections, her Spring 2010 RTW and her 2011 Menswear. This is my first menswear that I'm studying, soooooo I could be missing something...

So I do like a lot of her stuff, especially the more modern looks and the sharp business woman suit-like things. I'm just confused by her style and audience??? Interesting.... I did enjoy my first menswear collection though!!!

Designer #7 - AF Vandevorst

The Label


This Label was created by An Vandervorst and Filip Arickx who are husband and wife. They both graduated from the Fashion School of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Their first collection came out in 1998 in Paris and they then launched a shoe collection in 2003 and a lingerie line in 2006. They use a lot of contrasting fabrics in texture and color. Lingerie is used a lot in their shows covered up with very tailored coats large capes.


Spring Runway 2011

Slinky almost chain-metal-like dress, good example of interesting texture. Gladiator sandals look great, the necklace is nice, i love the construction. I really want to learn how to make that type of sleeves. The entire construction of the whole dress is really great:)

Not entirely understanding the flag...? If anyone does, I'd LOVE to know. The slinky leggings are prevalent in this show. It's a very distinct texture difference from the light-weight dress. I love all the grey, but I'm addicted to grey clothing.... haha

This is an example of the very tailored jacket over something less shaped. The silver dress isn't exactly lingerie, but it's definitely very different from the architectural jacket in both texture and color. A very interesting construction, I really really like it.

I LOVE THIS JACKET!!! Just finished helping make a jacket for the current play at my college, and I now have a HUGE appreciation for coats. There is a lot of hand sewing in them. I just love the cleanliness of this one with the tone changes and overall I'm a sucker for trenches. 

Beautiful dress, I love how much silver is in this show. Kind of on the thin side so I guess borderline lingerie..? Still really pretty:):)

Yellow all over:) Same necklace as before. The construction of the dress almost reminds me of a sari?? 

Neck collar and sari bit again with slightly different gladiator sandals. The grays are lighter and I love the print. Still has the blending tones thing going on from the coat. 

I liked the tailoring the most in this designer, and the contrasts. They contrasts were never too much to handle and always looked very elegant and put together which I think is very difficult to do. I dunno about the slinky leggings... haha but the dresses and coats I very much enjoyed:)

Designer #6 - Adrienne Vittadini

The Label


This label was created by Adrienne Vittadini in 1979. It is RTW and sold in Lord & Taylor and Macy's. It also produces eyewear and shoes.

The Designer


Adrienne Vittadini was born in Budapest. Her family fled her country when she was twelve during the revolution. She attended the Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia.

Spring 2010 RTW

Very safari like lol:) LOVE that hat. Interesting seeing this on manaquins..

HAT:) And I like the shirt, skirt, and bangles. 

So Springy:):):) I can't WAIT for warm weather and flowers. Such a pretty, cute dress.

Cool mismatch. I always like black and white. I like how she balanced the colors and the black and white. Especially like the coat. 

Very nice outfit. Love the stripped shirt:) and hat:)

Designer #5 - A Detacher

The Label

This was created by Mona Kowalska, its is RTW and shown in New York and sold at A Detacher. The boutique is in Nolita at 262 Mott Street. They sell nothing wholesale, and it is more popular in Europe than in New York. It's a very high-end, avante garde store, very original. 


The Designer


Mona Kowalska is a 41 year-old New Yorker with great style and who likes to keep her business small. Turns out she actually does have some wholesale clients in Japan, but she prefers to sell her things personally in her store so that people see the full collection. That way the pieces make more sense, all together. She designed earlier in several small places in Italy and then briefly at Sonia Rykiel's studio (she ran it). Spring 2010 RTW

Such interesting fabric choices but I really enjoy them. One of those mismatches that work. I love that color palet. They were dead on in the articles, very architectural and avante garde. 

Beautiful patterns. Such an elegant cut too. 

I love it when designers make several pieces out of the same material. It's not only a very effective tools for unifying a show, but it also flatters the designer's imagination and flexibility.

I picked this one for the architecture. Not always a fan of tan, but a very interesting construct. 

This one was my favorite piece, just so elegant and individual and flattering. The necklace, makeup and hairstyle all work so well with it, and the shoes. They flatter it instead of overwhelming it, compliment its simplicity. Such an interesting piece. 

So there is the work of Mona Kowalska. Seems a very cool person:)

Designer #4 - Adeline Andre

The Label


This is an established label owned by Adeline Andre S.A. It is in Paris and can be bought at Linda Dresner. There are three segments of it. Adeline André which is RTW from Fall 1984 - present, Adeline André Haute Couture which is couture from 1998 - present, and then Adeline André Made to Measure Men's Collection Menswear from fall 1984 - present.


The Designer


Adeline Andre is a French designer who was born in the Equatorial French Bangui in Africa. Her family, of Scottish roots, mined gold and diamonds. She is also the great grand daughter of the constructor of the first railway in Egypt. She studied at School of the Syndicate Chamber of Parisian Couture, graduating in 1970. She then went to the Cristian Dior House. She was a couture assistant and worked alongside Marc Bohan. She then opened her own designer house in 1981. She came up with the "three sleeve hole". Three Sleeve Hole - I seriously couldn't find an image anywhere. In the article I linked up above they talk a bit about the sleeves. It seems to be a really big deal for her, so I'm surprised that there isn't a picture anywhere... Read the article, its like a paragraph long and really interesting!


Spring 2010 Couture

This is really the only one that is figure flattering (almost) and actually wearable out and about. she is VERY into color and chiffony fabric, multiple layers. Hence the three sleeve hole I believe.

Very orange. I actually like the red lipstick a lot here though.

Yellow!:) fav color right now, actualy painted my nails as such lol:) like spring, which we all so dearly miss

Big fan of this color, what a pretty blue:)

The most popsickle like one of them all:) here you can really see the layers. Fashion as more of an art, and experiment with color and fabric. It is beautiful, just not what I'm used to:) Adeline Andre has officially been the most interesting designer of them all so far:)

Designer #3 - ADAM

The Label
Adam Lippes created this line in 2004. He used to work for Oscar de la Renta and Polo Ralph Lauren. The collection originally consisted of pima cotton tees and underwear. It was launched at Saks Fifth Avenue. Expanded line fully to sportswear in 2006. Is now sold in over 200 stores and is known for knit tops and
slouchy shirts, widelegged trousers, and breezy dresses for women. Also for button-down shirts for men.


The Designer

Adam Lippes was born in Buffalo, New York. He went to Cornell and studied Psychology. Upon graduation, he studied architecture and art history at the American University in Paris. He moved back to New York and began his fashion career at Polo Ralph Lauren. Then he moved to Oscar de la Renta and quickly became a Global Creative Director, one of the youngest ever. After working with Oscar de la Renta from 1996 to 2003, he started his own line of tees and such called The Collection of Basics in 2004 which was very succesful. This lead to his current line of sporstwear called ADAM. August 2005, he was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America. He is involved in many charities and is 35 years old.

 Resort 2010 Womenswear

I like this jacket. I mean it's a tad low cut for me, but I like its cleanliness:) black and white is always as such. Those shoes are awesome...:) i have a recent desire for more heels lol.

Interesting pattern on this dress. It reminds me of chinese caligraphy, like the beginning of Mulan! Yeah childish I know, but that's what i get. the cleanliness of freshness of blank white paper:)

Such a cute dress. I love blue and simple as it is. And then the necklace is the perfect touch, especially in that color.

ORANGE SHORTS!:) I like orange. and yellow:) just painted my nails that color actually lol.

Orange with pink, very pretty. Gets me very in the mood for summer.... cant wait!!:)

This coat is fantastic, I kind of really want it... and those are the first grey pants/leggings i've actually liked. I usually on't like grey pants at all, almost always a mistake haha

The rainbow thread-like pattern reminds me of clothes a child would like which is not bad its very good:) I like its playfulness.

Very clean. Perfect. Actually like this blazer (not always a huge fan of those either..)

This dress reminds me of shipwrecked Ariel. In a good way;)
